kenya airways kisumu: A Kenya Airways (KQ) flight landed safely at Kisumu International Airport on Thursday evening after a bird hit.
The aircraft’s operating components were affected, but no one was injured in the incident involving KQ Flight 670, which had departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi at 5:25 pm, the airline said.
“The plane landed safely in Kisumu. However, it was not able to completely exit the runway as the bird strike affected the aircraft’s operating components.
“All passengers and crew on board are safe,” the statement said.
Journalist Chemutai Goin, one of the passengers on board the Kenya Airways Boeing 737-800 aircraft, said he was hit by the bird on his third attempt to land after it was disrupted by bad weather.
“On the third attempt at landing, we hit a bird. We finally landed, but the plane was inactive, so we waited to pull off the runway, but the bird was placed in the steering system, so it couldn’t turn, “said Ms Goin, a former parliamentary and political reporter for Citizen TV.
At the time of reporting, Kenya Airways was working closely with the relevant aviation authorities to remove the aircraft, which was still stuck on the runway, disrupting several flight schedules.
“Passengers of the affected flights will be provided with updated travel information and assistance as required,” it added.
