Yesterday (May 19), Kenya Airways has revealed service disruption taking place due to two Boeing 787 Dreamliners being grounded in Nairobi.
The African carrier has placed out an advisory to it’s customers, which does also include the unavailability of crews on some regional flights.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
The Two Aircraft Grounded in Nairobi…
In a statement, Kenya Airways said the following on the two Boeing 787 Dreamliners grounded in Nairobi:
“We would like to inform our customers that we are experiencing some disruptions in our flight schedules, which are leading to abnormally high levels of delays.”
“The main reason for these disruptions is the unscheduled and extended grounding of two of our 787 Dreamliners due to delayed engine and engine components delivery.”
“The flight disruption has also been impacted by the unavailability of our flight crew for some regional flights.”
“We sincerely apologise to the customers who have been inconvenienced with these delays.”
“We want to reiterate that your safety and well-being, as well as that of our crew, is our utmost priority.”
“[The airline is] doing everything in our power to resolve this situation as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
“We anticipate that our network will normalise by Tuesday, 21 May 2024, once we receive and install the necessary engine and components.”
“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
Data from Planespotters.net suggests that the aircraft grounded are 5Y-KZE and 5Y-KZB.

Kenya Airways is doing the following to address such disruptions caused by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner groundings in Nairobi:
- Readjusting our network accordingly.
- Communicating as proactively as possible to our affected customers.
- Speeding up the recovery of the grounded aircraft
- Adjusting our schedule, including downgrading some of our flights, to minimise the disruptions.
With such disruption expected to be solved by tomorrow (May 21), it has been a tumultuous few days for the airline.

It has been a disruptive few days for Kenya Airways.
The grounding of two Boeing 787s in Nairobi plus the regional crew disruption hasn’t been a positive point for the airline.
Looking ahead, all eyes turn to tomorrow to see if operations perform normally.
But for now, it does seem the airline is doing what they can to minimise such disruption.
