United Airlines travelers flying from Guam to Honolulu who were expecting to celebrate the new year twice were struck by an unfortunate delay.
Just days ago, the airline promoted a unique flight from Guam to Honolulu that would travel east across the International Date Line, resulting in passengers landing in Hawaii a day before they departed.
For people flying this route on the morning of Jan. 1, this meant they could ring in the new year two times within a span of 24 hours.
However, a rare delay for this flight derailed those plans.
United flight 200 ended up being delayed six hours, with passengers landing in Hawaii just 30 minutes after the new year, the travel news site One Mile at a Time reported.
This unexpected delay seems to be a case of extremely bad luck. Typically this route is one of the most punctual for the airline with 95% of flights being on time, the outlet reported. The last time this flight landed past midnight was eight months ago on April 20, 2023.
