Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vietnam’s only female billionaire, has been named the new Chairwoman of budget airline Vietjet. She replaces Nguyen Thanh Ha and was promoted from the position of Deputy Chairwoman and CEO, where she had been for many years. Thao has been the first self-made female billionaire in Vietnam, according to Forbes. In a separate move, Dinh Viet Phuong, who has been with Vietjet since its launch in 2007, was promoted to CEO, where he will oversee and manage the company’s daily operations. Last year, the airline transported over 20 million passengers on 116,000 flights, with domestic passenger numbers growing by 20% from pre-Covid levels.
