The Delhi High Court has issued a summons to Vistara airlines in response to a lawsuit filed by the parents of a 10-year-old girl. The suit demands nearly ₹2.7 crores in damages for second-degree burns the child suffered after a hot beverage was allegedly spilled on her by the airline’s staff. The incident occurred on a Vistara flight from Delhi to Frankfurt on August 11, 2023.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani heard the case on January 9 and directed the Tata-owned airline to file a response within a month. The Court also required Vistara to address the interim relief application within two weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for March 6.
The suit details that the child suffered grave second-degree burns on her thighs and adjoining areas due to an air hostess’s negligence. The hostess, reportedly in haste, was carrying a hot chocolate ordered by the child along with another extremely hot beverage when the incident occurred.

The family’s grievance extends to Vistara’s alleged lack of support following the incident. Vistara’s contact with the family reportedly only occurred after the incident was shared on social media by Mrs. Gupta, and even then, no material help was extended.
