Indian airline, Vistara, has become the first in the country to operate a commercial domestic flight on a wide-body aircraft using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Vistara’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner made the historic flight from Delhi to Mumbai using a blend of 17% sustainable fuel with 83% conventional jet fuel, reducing approximately 10,000 pounds of CO₂ emissions. This announcement comes after Vistara flew a wide-body aircraft on a long-haul international route using SAF, which reduced approximately 150,000 pounds of CO2 emissions over the fuel’s life cycle. Vistara is committed to driving sustainability and innovation in aviation and is working through the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation to lower CO2 emissions. Vistara has been recognised as India’s highest-rated airline on both Skytrax and TripAdvisor and has won multiple ‘Best Airline’ awards. It has also pledged to work extensively towards the reduction of carbon emissions through the use of sustainable technologies.
