Norwegian Air Shuttle and Wizz Air have both announced partnerships aimed at reducing their carbon footprints through investment in sustainable aviation fuel. Norwegian is setting up the world’s first production plant for e-fuels in Mosjøen, northern Norway, in collaboration with Norsk e-Fuel, with the plant expected to start production in 2026. The move marks the airline’s latest bid to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030. For its part, Wizz Air has invested £5m ($5.5m) in sewage-to-biofuel firm Firefly, which will supply the airline with sustainable fuel from 2028, resulting in an estimated 1.5 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent saved, according to the airline.
