North Macedonia has signed agreements with Lufthansa and Wizz Air to offer subsidies aimed at boosting the country’s tourism sector. The deals are part of the country’s subsidy system to improve air connectivity to North Macedonia and attract more tourists to the country. Under the program, airlines are offered financial incentives to launch new routes or increase the frequency of existing services to Skopje and Ohrid. Lufthansa will launch a new service connecting Skopje and Frankfurt, while Wizz Air plans to inaugurate four new routes from Skopje to Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Salzburg, and Stuttgart, with each city receiving three weekly flights. The subsidies aim to offset the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s tourism sector and make it more affordable and accessible for international visitors. North Macedonia hopes to attract more visitors and boost its economy with its rich cultural heritage, beautiful natural landscapes, and welcoming hospitality. Skopje and Ohrid are two of the most popular tourist destinations in the country known for their historic buildings and landmarks and stunning natural beauty, respectively.
