Travel rules updated in Saudi Arabia and other regional countries as cases approach 15 million-mark
The number of Covid-19 cases in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region crossed 14,994,032 on 29 November, according to Worldometers data collated by MEED.
Countries in the GCC account for 16.9 per cent (2,530,115) of all regional cases, while Iran’s 6,108,882 infections make up 40.9 per cent of the 14.9-million tally.
Since 22 November, 90,393 new cases have been reported in the 17 Mena countries tracked by MEED.
Jordan’s rate of weekly new cases was 3.11 per cent on 29 November amid a third wave of the virus, with infection numbers growing to 943,305 from 914,849 on 22 November.
In the past week, Gulf nations have reimposed travel bans to contain the spread of Omicron, the new coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa.
