American Airlines’ plan to remove 40% of its lowest fares from non-NDC channels has raised concerns for customers, GDSs and travel management companies. However, product marketing director for travel management company AmTrav, Elliott McNamee, believes AmTrav’s experience with American NDC has proven that it can work well for corporate travel. McNamee highlights that American NDC returns all flights and fares, including codeshares and clients’ negotiated discounts. Additionally, customers can book and hold American NDC bookings for pre-trip approvals, select their own seats and utilise unused NDC tickets for new travel. However, McNamee suggests improvements such as being able to exchange GDS tickets for NDC tickets and additional clarity on “special offers via American-owned channels.” Overall, American NDC works well and McNamee is excited about future possibilities enabled by the technology.
