‘Red Ink’ is coming to Showmax.
“It’s going to be fascinating to see how viewers are going to react to this,” whispered a MultiChoice executive who wasn’t talking about the unwrapping of the new Showmax but one of the racy new South African shows that will shock viewers and get tongues wagging when the video streamer releases an avalanche of 21 new Showmax Originals next month.
And that’s precisely what the traditional Randburg-based pay-TV operator desperately wants from next month: Big buzz around its flurry of new content that will have to do the heavy lifting of enticing existing viewers and potential new video consumers to download the new app.
The future of video is streaming, and MultiChoice has a lot riding on its spit-‘n-polished Showmax – with a new undercarriage from Comcast NBCUniversal’s Peacock and Sky – that will pop up with a brand-new “x”-infused iconography in app stores from 23 January before it’s official debut on 12 February.
