Houston City Council is expected to again delay regulations of short-term rentals on Wednesday as council members debate possible amendments to the proposed ordinance.
The ordinance would require short-term rentals, such as those available on the Airbnb and Vrbo platforms, to register with the city at a cost of $275, and it would provide criteria for revocation of the registration if renters repeatedly commit certain crimes, like reckless discharge of a firearm, prostitution or disorderly conduct.
Owners would face misdemeanor charges for violations with fines ranging from $100-$500.
Council member Julian Ramirez, chair of the quality of life committee, framed the proposal as a compromise when it was first presented in December.
