Airbnb is using a variety of tactics to keep partiers away from its short-term rental properties in Nashville and across the country this Halloween weekend to stay in line with its global party ban.
The short-term rental platform uses machine-learning software to sift through reservations and flag potential party risks like one or two-day stays at entire homes over the holiday weekend. Factors like last-minute bookings and short distances between the guest and the rental property are also potential indicators of partying guests. Approximately 37,000 reservations were deterred by the technology during last year’s Halloween season in the U.S. and Canada.
In Nashville, the anti-partying tactics deterred 200 reservations last Halloween and about 800 people statewide were blocked from making reservations, an Airbnb representative said.
