Since its inception in 2007, Airbnb has dramatically transformed the travel industry by facilitating homeowners to rent out their properties on a short or long-term basis. This system allows hosts to generate income, even from unoccupied rooms in their homes. It’s reported that new private room listings on the platform grew by 31% between 2021 and 2022, with hosts typically earning $3,971 in 2021. Airbnb not only provides a platform for hosts to earn income, but it also offers guests affordable and unique accommodation alternatives to traditional hotels. Despite its popularity, particularly for long-term rentals, Airbnb also carries several disadvantages.
