Real estate investment trust Starwood Capital Group has rich experience developing in-house hotel brands.
In 2013, Starwood Capital bought Principal Hotels, and after it expanded the brand for five years, it sold Principal Hotels to French real estate investment trust Foncière des Régions, known today as Covivio.
Now, Starwood Capital is focused on developing its fledgling Treehouse Hotels, a brand founded by Starwood Capital affiliate SH Hotels & Resorts, which also manages brands 1 Hotel and Baccarat Hotel. The first Treehouse opened in 2019 in London in the former St. George’s Hotel opposite hotel The Langham, London.
Two additional Treehouse properties will soon join the brand portfolio, with hotels under development in Miami and Manchester, England.
The Manchester hotel will be part of a 200 million pounds sterling ($245.5 million) redevelopment of the former Renaissance Manchester City Centre. Some parts of the immediate neighborhood have not been renovated to 21st century…
