MakeMyTrip Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of the online travel company MakeMyTrip, has pledged to contribute five crores (Indian rupees) towards relief efforts in flood-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Foundation will work with various partners, including government bodies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities, to provide immediate aid and support in the affected areas. Deep Kalra, the founder and chairman of MakeMyTrip, emphasized the importance of helping the local community during this time of need, as these states are popular tourist destinations. MakeMyTrip Foundation, which was established in 2015, focuses on making a positive impact on destinations, people, and the environment. The Foundation has been involved in various initiatives related to COVID-19, such as developing the Aarogya Setu app and launching CoviRide, a platform for transport-related solutions. It has also extended its support to relief efforts in the aftermath of natural disasters like Cyclone Fani in Odisha and the 2019 Kerala floods. The commitment to support flood-affected regions aligns with the Foundation’s mission to nurture local communities and preserve the environment for future generations.
