MakeMyTrip, an online travel company, has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism to showcase over 600 destinations in India, beyond the typical tourist spots. The collaboration has resulted in the creation of a microsite called “The Traveller’s Map of India”, which allows travelers to discover hidden gems within the country based on their preferences. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Dekho Apna Desh” program, which aims to promote domestic tourism.
The microsite was developed by MakeMyTrip, and it serves as a platform for travelers to explore lesser-known destinations in India. The company compiled a curated shortlist of destinations based on India’s travel search history found on their platform. With millions of visitors using the platform each month, MakeMyTrip considers the destination searches as a reflection of the nation’s preferences for must-see places.
The selected destinations are categorized based on tags such as adventure, wildlife, heritage, mountains, and beaches, making it easier for travelers to find options that align with their interests. These destinations were chosen because they are either lesser-known or only familiar to people in certain regions of the country. MakeMyTrip believes that this microsite represents the voice of Indian travelers and is a suitable way to commemorate Independence Day on August 15th.
Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of Tourism, Culture, and DoNER, praised MakeMyTrip’s initiative and welcomed more collaborations to promote domestic tourism. He believes that showcasing India’s diverse destinations will help realize the collective dream of showcasing the country to the world.
Rajesh Magow, the Co-Founder & Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Tourism’s support in their initiative. He stated that they have always championed for the diversity of India’s tourism offerings and wanted to further promote the discovery of hidden gems. By empowering every Indian to be a spokesperson for the country’s cultural, historic, natural, and geographical marvels, MakeMyTrip aims to position India as the most sought-after tourism destination in the world.
In addition to promoting tourism, the Traveller’s Map of India also supports the potential of domestic tourism as an instrument for socio-economic development. MakeMyTrip believes that the growth of domestic tourism will contribute directly to the multifactoral growth of India’s economy.
Overall, this collaboration between MakeMyTrip and the Ministry of Tourism aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of India’s tourism offerings. By creating a platform for travelers to discover hidden gems, the Traveller’s Map of India encourages domestic tourism and contributes to the country’s socio-economic growth.
