In a recent legal victory, Mr. Manish Maini emerged triumphant in a consumer dispute against Make My Trip (India) Pvt. Ltd. The Delhi Consumer Commission, presided over by Shri Inder Jeet Singh, President, and Ms. Shahina, Member-Female, delivered its judgment on January 23, 2024, in Complaint Case.
The complaint, filed on December 2, 2019, alleged deficiency of services and unfair trade practices by Make My Trip. Mr. Maini, a practicing lawyer, had booked a hotel room for himself and his family through Make My Trip’s online portal for November 9, 2019. However, upon reaching the hotel, he was shocked to discover that there was no booking in his name.
In his complaint, Mr. Maini sought compensation of Rs. 7 lakhs under various heads. Make My Trip vehemently opposed the complaint, challenging it on grounds including territorial jurisdiction and claiming that an alternate accommodation was offered.
