The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has ordered travel agency MakeMyTrip (MMT) to pay a compensation of Rs 2.2 lakh to a senior citizen for failing to provide travel details in advance, resulting in a spoiled vacation with his grandchildren. The decision, dated January 22, highlighted the company’s failure to allow the complainant, Devraj Beharnani, adequate time to adjust his plans in coordination with MMT.
In 2012, 75-year-old Beharnani purchased a travel package from MMT valued at Rs 4.5 lakh for a trip to Jakarta, Bali, and Singapore, inclusive of visas, airfare, hotel accommodations, transportation, meals, sightseeing, and travel insurance. However, Beharnani claimed that MMT did not supply him with the itinerary, hotel booking confirmations, flight tickets, or insurance details until the day of departure, causing significant distress and health issues, including high blood pressure and a stroke.
