Guido Brettschneider, CEO of TUI China, spoke with ChinaTravelNews about TUI’s growth in China over the past 20 years. TUI China, a joint-venture between TUI and China Tourism Group (CTG), primarily focuses on selling overseas hotel accommodations to Chinese tourists traveling to Europe and Southeast Asia. In addition, the company works on MICE products and inbound tourism in China. Mr. Brettschneider remains optimistic about China’s long-term position as a destination, despite geopolitical challenges impacting inbound tourism. TUI China is working on multi-channel distribution platforms for digitalization and is exploring the use of ChatGPT, an AI tool, for customer information and travel agency sales. Mr. Brettschneider believes that physical contact is still important for many customers and that AI will not completely take over all travel agency businesses. TUI China hopes to continue to be a recognized MICE player in China as travel gradually returns to normal this summer.
