Tourism businesses in Bangladesh are expecting over Tk500 crore worth of business during Eid, with around 50 lakh people expected to travel to various domestic destinations. However, this is expected to be 20-25% less than the previous year due to inflationary pressure, heatwaves, upcoming SSC examinations, and tourism bans in some Bandarban areas. Despite an uptick in holiday trips after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, the trend has gone downwards over time, with many tourists booking hotels and motels in advance this Eid, but their number is lower than the previous year due to factors such as price hikes and hot weather. Popular tourist spots include Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata, with Padma Multipurpose Bridge easing the journey to the latter, while Bandarban tour operators expressed their frustration due to tourism bans in some areas there. In contrast, amusement centres in Chattogram are preparing to welcome visitors during Eid and beyond.
