Despite rising travel costs and a heatwave, tourism in Bangladesh reached expected levels during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. Hotels, motels, and resorts reported occupancy rates exceeding 90%, with Cox’s Bazar being the top vacation spot with around 500 hotels and more than 2,000 eateries. Tourism accounted for 3% of the country’s GDP in 2018-19 and 8% of total employment that year. While some tourists lost interest in travel due to high inflation and rising temperatures, some resorts, such as The Palace Luxury Resort and Bhawal Resort and Spa, were almost fully booked. The number of tourists going abroad is also increasing day by day, according to Tour Group Bangladesh.
