Bangladesh’s first tourism master plan has yet to be formulated, three months after its deadline. The draft of the master plan is ready, but will not be finalized until stakeholders give their approval. The tourism industry operates in a bureaucratic and chaotic manner in Bangladesh, with no tourism professionals in government-related institutions. The government hopes implementing the master plan will increase tourism’s GDP contribution to 10%. Bangladesh Tourism Board signed an agreement in 2020 with international consulting firm IPE Global to develop the country’s tourism sector, but its development was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The total contract value is roughly Tk 28 crore 66 lakh.
