Cambodia Plans to Transform Tourism Marketing Board to Boost Industry
In an effort to bolster the effectiveness and competitiveness of Cambodia’s hospitality and tourism industry, the Ministry of Tourism recently convened a meeting with key stakeholders in the private tourism sector. The forum was focused on reviewing a draft sub-decree aimed at transforming the Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board (TMPB) into the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB).
Public-Private Partnership for Tourism Development
The meeting saw representation from several associations including the Cambodian Chefs Federation (CCF), the Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA), the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA), the Cambodian Restaurant Association (CRA), and the Cambodian Hotel Association (CHA). The objective was to reach a consensus on the principles for finalizing the draft sub-decree, shaping Cambodia into a sustainable and inclusive tourism destination.

Enhancing the Scope of the Cambodia Tourism Board
Minister Sok Soken highlighted the importance of collaboration with the private sector in promoting the CTB’s activities and aligning them with the developmental needs of the tourism industry. The government’s commitment to supporting the CTB initiatives was underscored, aligning with the government’s vision under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership.

Aiming to Boost Economic Growth
The public-private partnership is expected to connect with key tourism markets, drive tourism development, and contribute to economic growth and productivity. Thourn Sinan, chairman of PATA’s Cambodia Chapter, expressed the private sector’s support for the government’s efforts to enhance the tourism industry. The TMPB, established in 2019, includes various government ministries and private associations. It is currently considering proposals to improve tourism facilitation and increase the Kingdom’s appeal.
