The Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia will begin on May 14th with the opening ceremony taking place at a new stadium funded and built by China. More than 11,000 athletes, coaches, and delegates from 11 countries will attend the 32nd biennial event, which runs until May 17th. The Games will include well-known sports such as athletics, swimming, badminton, and football, as well as more rare sports like Kun Bokator, an ancient Cambodian martial art. Cambodia is hosting the Games for the first time and is hoping that tourism is boosted from the money generated during the event. The government has also closed schools and universities for a month so that students can watch the Games, and tickets for the event have been handed out for free. The government has put the price tag for the Games, not including the stadium grant, at $118m.
