In a determined move to bolster its tourism sector, Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism convened a technical meeting on December 18. The central focus of this gathering was a pivotal document titled Planning Tourist Development and Assessing Achievements. Chaired by Men Phearom, the deputy director-general for Tourism Development and International Cooperation, the meeting witnessed participation from an array of key stakeholders.
Strategic Planning for Tourism Development
The discussed document aims to serve as a roadmap for monitoring progress and addressing obstacles within the tourism sector. It is expected to enhance the competence of local authorities, especially in the planning departments of capital and provincial tourism. With a vision to prepare for five-year development plans, the guide is likely to play a critical role in advancing Cambodia’s tourism infrastructure.
Emphasis on Systematic Development
Chuob Ratana, director of the tourism development planning department, emphasized that the guidelines are intended to facilitate systematic tourism development. Ratana confirmed that the guide will be distributed nationwide, ensuring its wide-reaching impact on Cambodian tourism. Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Cambodia Chapter, lauded the government’s proactive step. He expressed optimism about Tourism Minister Sok Soken’s leadership in driving these crucial reforms.
Chinese Investment and Bilateral Relations
In related news, Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia recently held a crucial meeting with senior Chinese officials at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh. The Chinese delegation expressed a keen interest in investing in various sectors, including tourism, trade, culture, education, and sports. China also pledged to offer scholarships to Cambodian students for higher education, reinforcing its commitment to Cambodia’s growth. As the two nations celebrate the 65th anniversary of their bilateral diplomatic relations, China’s influence on Cambodia’s economy continues to deepen.
