Cambodia’s Takeo Province and China’s Weifang City Sign MoU to Boost Cultural and Tourism Cooperation
The provincial governor of Takeo, Ouch Phea, has taken a notable stride in fostering international collaboration with a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with leaders of Weifang city in China’s Shandong province. The agreement, penned during a four-day visit from December 23 to 26, is an initiative to promote cooperation in arts, culture, and tourism between the two regions.
Strengthening Ties and Attracting Investment
As part of his diplomatic mission, Phea, along with his delegation, held discussions with representatives from 16 Shandong-based companies. The agenda was to attract investment to Cambodia, with a particular emphasis on the Takeo province. This historically significant province is considered the birthplace of Cambodia and is expected to draw Chinese tourists, further bolstering Cambodia’s tourism industry.
Fostering Historical Relationships
Ky Sereyvath, head of the Institute of China Studies at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, highlighted the historical relationship between China and Cambodia. This bond spans over 2,000 years. Sereyvath urged for the solid execution of the agreement, a move that would not only strengthen economic ties but also showcase the robust partnership between the two nations.
Expanding Collaborations
Cambodia’s collaboration with China is not a new venture. Their participation in agreements like the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) demonstrates an expanding alliance. The recent MoU signed between Takeo and Weifang further underlines this dedication to mutual growth and prosperity.
