Laos’ tourism industry is showing signs of rapid recovery, especially in the ancient capital of Luang Prabang in the northern region of the country, according to the Luang Prabang Department of Information, Culture and Tourism. In the first three months of 2021, the province welcomed more than 273,000 tourists, of whom 240,000 were foreign arrivals, earning more than $157 million from tourism. Although the COVID-19 pandemic almost paralyzed the tourism industry, Laos’ tourism industry has gradually recovered since reopening the country in May 2022 and is showing signs of improvement. The Lao government aims to attract at least 1.4 million foreign tourists this year to ensure the good implementation of the National Socio-Economic Development Plan for the period of 2021-2025.
