Laos’ tourism industry is starting to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, with the ancient capital of Luang Prabang leading the way. In the first three months of this year, the province saw over 273,000 tourists, of which 240,000 were foreigners, earning more than 157 million USD. Tourism is a crucial part of Laos’ socio-economic development plan, and the industry welcomed over 4.79 million international tourists in 2019. Despite the pandemic significantly affecting the industry, Laos aims to attract at least 1.4 million foreign tourists this year.
