Laos Eyes Enhanced Media, Culture, and Tourism Collaboration with China
The second Belt and Road Forum for Laos-China cooperation became the stage for a crucial discourse between Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency. The focus of their conversation was the pivotal role of media, culture, and tourism development in fostering closer ties between the two nations.
Strengthening Cooperation
Sonexay expressed his hopes of attracting more Chinese tourists by augmenting cooperation with China in these sectors. He invited Chinese companies to assist in the development of Laos’ tourism industry, presenting a promising opportunity to boost bilateral business relations. The Prime Minister’s words were a reflection of Laos’ commitment towards enhancing its international profile and economic prosperity, particularly through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Role of the Belt and Road Initiative
The Laos-China Railway, a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative, has brought significant improvements in transport and economic growth in Laos. Sonexay acknowledged China’s support and emphasized the government’s backing for such cooperative efforts. He also expressed his gratitude towards the Xinhua News Agency for its contribution to Lao journalism and expressed hope for further cooperation in promoting Laos’ tourism sector.
Xinhua’s Commitment to Belt and Road Cooperation
Fu Hua reiterated Xinhua’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to build a closer China-Laos community and strengthen people-to-people connections. He noted that Xinhua would also support Laos’ upcoming ASEAN chairmanship by reporting on the country’s economic and social progress in multiple languages. This commitment from Xinhua aligns with the overall goal of the forum, which is to encourage cooperation in various fields, including the economy, trade, investment, and tourism. It is a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond between the two nations and enhance their mutual growth.
