Tourism facilities are expected to be upgraded in Luang Prabang, northern Laos, to cater to an influx of visitors attracted by the new China-Laos Railway cross-border passenger train service. The Vice-Governor of Luang Prabang province, Bounleuan Manivong, disclosed that the provincial capital was a magnet to visitors in Laos and abroad. To lure more visitors, provincial authorities are building more tourism facilities while tourism operators have upgraded popular attractions and hospitality services. In the first three months of 2023, Luang Prabang province recorded more than 273,000 visitors, generating more than £157m in revenue. These figures look set to increase due to the train, a fast, safe and comfortable way of travelling to the province, according to local vendor Bounmany Phomsy. Since the inauguration of the China-Laos Railway in December 2021, over 335,000 tourists have travelled to Luang Prabang province, accounting for 85% of the total.
