Laos has experienced a surge in tourism in the first quarter of 2023, with over 800,000 international visitors, according to the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism. The majority of these tourists came from Thailand, followed by Vietnam and China. Laos is also attracting tourists from Europe, especially Russia. The Ministry has set a goal of attracting 1.4 million international visitors by the end of 2023, with a revenue target of up to USD 340 million. The country has been receiving international accolades for its natural beauty and cultural heritage, with Luang Prabang being named as a must-visit destination by Forbes. To achieve their tourism targets, officials have been urged to improve tourism infrastructure and develop new tourism products.
