Laos and South Korea are exploring ways to increase tourism between the two countries, with a focus on encouraging more Korean tourists to visit Laos. The two sides met in Luang Prabang province to discuss their experiences and potential cooperation between the government and private sectors. Korean tourists are particularly interested in visiting Vangvieng district and Luang Prabang province in Laos. In 2020, over 1.29 million foreign visitors, including Korean nationals, came to Laos. The Lao government sees tourism as a crucial pillar of economic development, supporting employment and boosting rural income. Laos is working with other ASEAN countries and nations in the Asia-Pacific region to restore tourism, which was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. South Korea has supported village development in Laos, and there is a growing trend of travel between the two countries.
