Nepal has announced its readiness to attract more Chinese tourists after three years of pandemic-related downturns. A group of 180 Chinese tourists became the first to arrive in Nepal after the pandemic last week. Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, welcomed the travelers who landed at Tribhuvan International Airport alongside the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the CEO of Nepal Tourism Board. Nepal is eager to develop its tourism market as one of the world’s largest outbound tourist generating countries. Currently, China is the second-largest market for Nepalese tourism, receiving 169,543 Chinese visitors in 2019. Despite pandemic-related declines, Nepal has been making preparations to offer better services for Chinese tourists through infrastructure construction and talent training. The country now boasts two international airports – Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara Regional International Airport – which are designed to offer more convenience for Chinese travelers. With the help of China, Nepal is striving to develop a comprehensive tourism program that strengthens the relationship between the two nations.
