Nepal’s tourism industry seems to be making a strong recovery with the arrival of nearly 100,000 foreign tourists in March 2023, a significant increase from the corresponding month in 2020, 2021, and 2022. However, arrivals are yet to reach the pre-pandemic level of 2019 when 127,351 tourists had visited Nepal in March. Maniraj Lamichhane, director of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), acknowledged that Nepal’s tourism industry is steadily recovering and poised for further growth in the coming months, with the trend of increased arrivals of foreign visitors expected to continue throughout April and May. India emerged as the top source country for tourists visiting Nepal with a total of 25,911 Indian nationals visiting the country in March, representing 26.1% of the total international tourists. The United States and the United Kingdom secured the second and third positions, with 9,557 and 6,133 visitors, respectively. Lamichhane stated that Nepal’s tourism industry has a loyal base of visitors who continue to value the country’s cultural and natural attractions, even in the face of challenging circumstances.
