The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) has predicted that African airlines might transport as many as 98 million passengers by the end of 2024, a 15% rise from 2023. The Association noted that, despite challenges, the sector has maintained recovery momentum, observing a revived interest in passenger demand, indicating a solid recovery for the industry. AFRAA attributed this positive outcome to the strategical addition of new routes and increased flight frequencies, which have considerably enhanced the capacity of Africa’s carriers. This resulted in a significant 6% increase in available seats, from 15.1 million in May 2023 to 15.9 million in May 2024.
