Mastercard Economics Institute’s “Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries” report reveals Indians are spending more on travel this year. From January to March 2024, airports in India witnessed a major surge in passenger traffic, with 9.7 crore passengers travelling domestically and internationally. While domestic travel in India increased by 21%, international travel witnessed a 4% increase compared to pre-pandemic March 2019, with Singapore and other Asian destinations surfacing as the best international choices among Indians.

Compared to 2019, Indian visitor numbers have jumped in Vietnam by 248%, the US by 59%, and Japan by 3%. Flight booking data shows roughly 50,000 Indian travellers have already visited Japan this year.
