Bold startup airline PLAY has revealed in full its initial destinations for the United States. Two of the three locations are set to be head-to-head with Icelandair, while Norse Atlantic is eyeing the third. But CEO Birgir Jonsson is not worried about the competition, and believes he can win passenger share through reliable service and keen pricing.
A year to remember
2022 is set to be the year of expansion for Icelandic startup PLAY. The airline has revealed its plans to fly to the east cost of the US, with three destinations announced so far.
The choice of destinations is interesting, although not entirely unexpected. Boston and Baltimore were the first destinations served by WOW Air, something of a predecessor of PLAY and, indeed, an airline where Mr Jonsson himself served as deputy CEO for some time. They were also the last ones to be pulled down when WOW began to crumble.
