DANBURY — Officials have proposed reopening the historic train station on White Street as a way to create a faster ride from Danbury to New York City.
The idea is one of several options pitched to bring riders from Danbury to the Southeast Station and onto Grand Central Station, but officials say it’s the most promising in the Hat City.
“It appears to be certainly the most feasible both from a physical and economic perspective that also can provide the type of services,” said Drew Galloway, project manager with WSP, the consultant firm studying the project. “It’ll have the shortest travel times between Danbury and Southeast because it doesn’t have any slope speed connections to go through the neighborhoods.”
Shortening those travel times is a main goal of a study of the Beacon line, also know as the Maybrook line. The firm presented its findings so far from a study of line during a virtual meeting on Monday afternoon.
