Inmarsat Maritime, a subsidiary of Viasat, has released a white paper encouraging maritime entities to boost their cyber defenses. The call comes as the industry is increasingly implementing connected digital technologies, with an emphasis on decarbonisation and crew wellbeing. The paper provides insight into the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) new unified requirements for cyber security. Put together with ClassNK, an IACS member, the ‘IACS Unified Requirements E26 And E27 – Beyond Compliance’ breaks down the timeline of complying with the soon-to-be-enforced URs. Coming into effect from July 1, 2024, the E26 and E27 will lay out fundamental requirements for cyber-resilience abilities in the industry.
