A growing number of families are choosing a ‘Lap of the Map’ journey around Australia as ongoing border restrictions prevent international travel.
But the COVID-19 crisis has played havoc with itineraries, accommodation bookings and the availability of caravans, campervans and 4WD vehicles for some travellers as well as turning interstate travel into a game of chance.
Tim Duggan has been on the road with his husband Ben since October 2020, travelling through NSW and Victoria before flying to the Northern Territory and driving through outback Western Australia.
“We have navigated borders opening and closing for eight months,” he said. “You just have to be extremely nimble and learn to be responsive and for plans to change by the hour.”
