New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), committed to elevating passenger convenience through advanced digital solutions, has taken a monumental stride by introducing Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment options at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and ticket/customer care counters across its expansive network. This transformative move was inaugurated at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station by Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, along with other dignitaries such as Jean-Marc Reynaud, MD of Revenue Collection Systems (Thales), France SAS, and Mr. Abhay Sharma, Chief Business Officer of Paytm Payments Bank Limited, among other senior DMRC officials.
By upgrading the systems at stations throughout the Delhi-NCR network, commuters can now effortlessly recharge smart cards and purchase metro QR tickets using UPI-supported mobile applications on their smartphones. This user-friendly feature mirrors the seamless payment methods witnessed in various aspects of daily life, including shopping malls, grocery stores, and local vendors. Bid farewell to the need for cash or debit/credit cards, as this innovative solution significantly lightens the load on wallets.
Delhi Metro’s groundbreaking adoption of UPI on select TVMs along the Noida and Ghaziabad section in 2018 set a pioneering precedent. The current expansion encompasses over 125 stations, enhancing ticketing services by offering a faster, more secure, and convenient payment mode. This initiative contributes to the comprehensive modernization of public transportation in the Delhi/NCR region, with the remaining TVMs being equipped with UPI capabilities within the next week.
For this remarkable upgrade, DMRC collaborated with the dynamic consortium of Revenue Collection Systems (Thales), France SAS, and Paytm Payments Bank Limited. This collaboration has overhauled the entire ecosystem of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system, enabling seamless travel through QR Tickets and NCMC (National Common Mobility Card).
Recent endeavors by DMRC have consistently centered around streamlining payment processes and enhancing user experience. From mobile QR tickets via the Metro Travel App to WhatsApp-based ticketing on the Airport Line, net banking through dmrcsmartcard.com, mobile wallet integrations, and NCMC compliant cards, DMRC continues to pioneer digital convenience.
This integration of UPI payment options is yet another testament to Delhi Metro’s unwavering dedication to enhancing travel experiences for the millions of passengers who rely on its services daily. As Delhi Metro propels forward with innovation, seamless and efficient travel becomes the new norm for all.
