Here in Michigan winter weather tourism is big business, and without snow the industry loses out big time.
According to the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association, last season, the loss was nearly 42 million dollars in revenue.
“The economic impact was pretty devastating for the industry. Snow sports including snowmobiling, tourism, lodging and everything; for lack of a better term, it was a pitiful winter,” said MSIA executive director Mike Panich.
Unseasonably warm weather creates the inability to make snow if it doesn’t fall naturally.
For northern Michigan, an area partially built on winter weather tourism, businesses suffered the last few years and needed financial assistance to stay afloat.
