From 17 April, fully vaccinated visitors will no longer need to show a negative pre-departure test result, Australia’s minister for health Greg Hunt announced on Friday (25 March).
Currently, travellers must take a PCR test within the three days of travel or an antigen test within 24 hours.
Hunt said Covid restrictions would not be renewed after 17 April “as Australia moves towards living with Covid-19”, adding constraints on cruise operations would also end on that date.
The cost of antigen tests will be monitored to ensure “price gouging” does not occur, with Hunt saying supply of rapid tests was “strong”.
International travellers arriving and leaving Australia will still be required to provide proof of double vaccination and to wear a mask while on international flights.
