On June 21, 2024, Southwest Airlines flight 4069 flying from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City descended alarmingly to an altitude of 525 feet while still being 9 miles away from the destination airport. This incident occurred just before midnight and was brought to attention when air traffic control received an alert about the plane’s dangerously low altitude. Contact was then made with the pilots, with the alert “Southwest 4069, low altitude alert. You good out there?”
The plane had previously been cleared for landing at Oklahoma City’s runway 13 and seemed to be lining up for the landing. However, before executing the landing, the plane ascended, making a go-round and reaching an altitude of 3,000 feet. The reasons for this occurrence were not clarified.
