Maayan Ziv, a disability activist and founder of AccessNow, has claimed that Air Canada flight attendants refused to store her wheelchair in the cabin during recent flights to and from Austin. Ziv said the airline staff were “argumentative” and claimed that her wheelchair was a “dangerous good” that couldn’t be stored in the plane closet. However, Canadian law states that a carrier must accept a person’s mobility aid for transport as priority baggage and must make room for it. Ziv is urging people with disabilities to be aware of their rights when travelling. Daily Hive has contacted both Ziv and Air Canada for comment.
