Air India on Wednesday launched its self-service check-in and baggage drop facilities for travellers flying to San Francisco from the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
In a statement, Air India said the automated facility previously available for domestic flights has now been extended to international routes with plans underway to expand it to other key destinations like Singapore and Male. “This new initiative, launched on March 20, 2024, aims to streamline the travel experience for tech-savvy passengers departing from Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley, to San Francisco, the renowned tech hub of the world,” Air India stated.
Air India said it is the first and only airline to offer automated services for US-bound passengers from India.
“We are focused on elevating customer experience at every touchpoint. This facility eliminates waiting time for check-in at the counters and offers our passengers a smooth pre-boarding experience,” said Donald Hunter, Head of Global Airport Operations and Ground Handling, Air India.
From printing boarding passes to tagging their baggage and dropping it off at designated slots, travellers can now navigate these processes independently, significantly reducing waiting time. Passengers can select preferred seats (if available), update frequent flyer details, and avail of other services directly at the kiosk.
This project expands upon Air India’s earlier installation of self-service kiosks at Terminal 3 at the Delhi airport, which were limited to domestic flights and international flights to Australia.
