Air India was fined Rs 1.10 crore by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for safety violations of the flights operated on certain routes. The aviation watchdog alleged that Air India violated the safety norms on certain long-range terrain critical routes.
“DGCA has initiated enforcement action and imposed a penalty of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India over allegations of safety violations of flights operated by Air India on certain long-range terrain critical routes,” the official statement from DGCA stated.
According to a release on Wednesday, the regulator conducted a thorough investigation after receiving a voluntary safety report from an airline employee claiming safety violations of flights operated by Air India on specific long-range terrain-critical routes.
Air India was given a show-cause notice since the inquiry appeared to establish that the airline was not in compliance, the DGCA said. The safety report pertained to leased aircraft operated by Air India.
Last year in November, the Aviation watchdog issued a show cause notice to Air India for non-compliance with norms about facilities that are required to be provided to passengers.
Recently, IndiGo had also been fined Rs 1.20 crore by DGCA. The fines are a consequence of the aviation authority’s commitment to upholding safety standards in response to the violation of established protocols.
