A minor collision took place between two flights at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday. While one flight was flying to Chennai, the other was Darbhanga bound. The two planes collided wing to wing.
The incident took place at 11:10 am. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the accident.
The wing tip of the Chennai-bound aircraft broke off due to the collision, while the wing of the other plane collapsed due to impact.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been informed about the incident. The aviation regulatory body has initiated a high-level investigation into the matter.
According to sources, the incident took place as an Air India flight was getting ready to fly to Chennai around 10.40 am. By that time, 163 passengers were sitting on the plane, accompanied by six cabin crew. Meanwhile, Indigo flight 6E 6152 was preparing to take off from Kolkata to Darbhanga, with 149 passengers onboard the plane along with 6 cabin crew.
