New Delhi: A woman lashed out at Air India for reallocating her mother’s business class seat on a long flight from New Delhi to Washington DC. The woman took to X to express her disappointment and anger.
The user, who goes by the name Vitasta, wrote, “Air India, how dare you give my mom’s business class seat to someone else on a long haul flight from Delhi to Washington DC? First, telling her the seat doesn’t recline, then saying the seat is for the crew, and then she finds someone else sitting there as she is sent to economy?”

Further, she added, “Absolutely ridiculous behaviour and no regard for your customers! We will be complaining about this. Air India, do better!”
The post quickly gained traction online. Many commented on the it. One asked, “How can they? Aren’t crew seats already designated? The seat shouldn’t have been for sale at all in the first place if that was the case.” A second person asked, “She booked a business class for her and got economy?”
Responding to the questions, Vitasta commented, “Yes! She was told all this prior to boarding and given an economy seat. While boarding, she saw someone else sitting in the seat she had booked!”
Social media reactions
Another netizen said, “Exact same thing happened to me on a from DC to India. Was told my seat isn’t operational, doesn’t recline properly, and all my polite requests telling them I am up since 40 hrs without a wink and really need to sleep landed on deaf ears.”
Meanwhile, Air India joined the conversation and asked woman to share her contact number. Responding to the comment, Vitasta said, “It’s been six hours since I posted this tweet. I will talk to you once my mother lands and I have spoken to her. If she hasn’t been given a business class seat/has had an uncomfortable journey in any way, we will discuss this further.” The airline further responded, “Dear Ma’am, please be rest assured that we’re investigating the matter on priority with our airport team. We’ll connect with you soon”.
